Lisa Batson has been studying and speaking Spanish for over twenty-five years. Her journey with the language began in high school, but it truly came alive through travel and immersive experiences across Latin America. From ordering street tacos in Mexico City to navigating remote towns in the Dominican Republic, she has seen firsthand how learning Spanish opens doors, builds connections, and deepens understanding of diverse cultures.
After receiving an MA in Spanish and International Relations from American University in Washington, DC, Lisa took a detour into the corporate world, where she served as President of Earl Owen Co in Dallas, Texas, where she oversaw teams of drivers, material handlers, bookkeepers, sales staff, and programmers. Throughout her 25-year career, she used Spanish daily to connect with associates and coworkers, honing her cross-cultural expertise while cultivating an empathetic leadership style.
Now, as a tutor, Lisa combines a love of language with a passion for helping students gain confidence and fluency. She believes learning Spanish should be practical, approachable, and fun – whether you’re studying for school, preparing for travel, or simply wanting to hold a meaningful conversation. Her sessions focus on grammar or conversation with clear explanations, helping students build the confidence to speak without fear.
Outside of tutoring, Lisa enjoys exploring new Spanish shows, reading bilingual books, hiking, biking, spending time with her family, and planning travel to practice her Spanish skills in authentic settings. She believes that learning Spanish doesn’t just teach you words – it gives you a whole new way to see the world.
